Make it Easier: A Wife’s Guide to Simplifying the Everyday

January 01, 20254 min read

Welcome to our Marriage War and Peace blog for January!

Happy New Year!

As we enter 2025, many of us will feel the pressure of setting lofty resolutions and overfilling our plates with ambitious goals.

Pease don’t. For battle-weary wives it’s not about setting goals or making resolutions, the real challenge lies in finding ease amid life’s daily demands.

Instead of striving for perfection, this year, let’s focus on simplifying—making life easier, more manageable, peaceful, and joyful.

If you’re like me, simplifying my day is something I yearn for. I actually want to let go of stuff. I want to release burdens, unrealistic expectations, and anything that drains my energy.

If this sounds like you, let’s pinky-swear to simplify our everyday lives. Let’s find ways to make it easier for ourselves and our loved ones.

In this month’s article, we’ll focus on:

  • From famine to feast

  • 7 tips and ways to embrace ease

  • The Joy of Less

From Famine to Feast

Life with a teenager, running a business, and managing a home means my days are full. So, when my schedule completely unraveled the other night, I decided to make it easy on myself.

Dinner hadn’t been planned, nothing was defrosted, and the pressure to figure it all out was creeping in. But then, I had a moment of clarity: What really matters to my family? It’s not whether I prepare a gourmet meal every night. What Shahriar and Kara love most is seeing me smile when they walk through the door—and having food on the table.

So, I made it easy.

I hopped in the car, grabbed everything I needed for a charcuterie feast, and let go of the need to cook. There was no slicing or dicing, just a little plating and arranging. I pulled out our nicest cheese boards and dessert stands, filled them with an array of crackers, a variety of cheeses, a selection of meats, a rainbow of veggies, a medley of dips, a handful of nuts, and slices of bread, and transformed an ordinary, everyday dinner into a vibrant, indulgent feast.

Their reaction? Pure joy. Kara’s eyes lit up, and Shahriar couldn’t stop commenting on how special it felt.

That night, I realized that simplifying doesn’t mean settling—it means choosing ease over unnecessary stress. So, ladies, I encourage you to embrace simplicity and find ways to make your everyday life a little lighter and more joyful whenever you can.

7 Tips and Ways to Embrace Ease

Simplifying your life doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. It’s about small, intentional steps that ease your load and nurture your well-being. As a wife and mother, you’re likely juggling countless roles, but with a few adjustments, you can create a sense of calm and clarity amid the chaos. Below are some practical tips and ways to help you simplify and bring more ease into your everyday life.

1. Create Manageable Routines

Simplify your mornings and evenings with routines that work for you. Start small—a cup of coffee before everyone else wakes up or a quick five-minute reflection at night. These routines anchor your day and bring a sense of calm amidst the chaos.

2. Set Realistic Expectations

Take stock of your to-do list and ask yourself: What truly matters? Let go of tasks and expectations that feel overwhelming or unnecessary. Give yourself grace to say “no” and prioritize what brings you peace.

3. Embrace the Power of Small Joys

Focus on moments that uplift you—a quiet walk, laughter with your children, or reading a few pages of a good book. Small joys sprinkled throughout the day can make life feel lighter.

4. Declutter Your Mental Space

Spend a few minutes each day journaling your thoughts. Writing can help you untangle worries, identify what’s weighing you down, and gain clarity. Let this practice be a safe space to release what no longer serves you.

5. Take ‘Ease Breaks’

Pause during your busy day to reconnect with yourself. Whether it’s a quick meditation, stretching, or sitting quietly with a warm cup of tea, these breaks help reset your mind and body.

6. Let Go of Perfectionism

Perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. Allow yourself to make mistakes and learn as you go. By letting go of the need to have everything ‘just right,’ you free up energy to focus on what truly brings happiness.

7. Delegate and Share the Load

You don’t have to do everything yourself. Share responsibilities with your spouse, children, or support system. Letting others pitch in not only lightens your load but fosters teamwork and connection.

By incorporating these nurturing activities into your routine, you’ll create a sanctuary of peace and renewal within yourself.
