Igniting Your Intuition and Deepening Your Spirituality

November 01, 20234 min read

Welcome to our Marriage and Peace blog for November!

November is for delving into your spirituality and intuition. You might find yourself exploring various religious practices or seeking a deeper connection with a higher power.

If you’re a busy mom, like me, you might be saying:

“Who’s got time for that?”

I used to think that, too, until I understood that I was the keeper of my time — not other people’s needs and wants.

At first, that felt a little selfish. Putting my needs above those of my family didn’t come easily for me. Until I re-framed it — I’m putting my connection with God first.

Like the flight attendants tell you: put your oxygen mask on first, before you assist others. And by doing that, deepening the relationship you have with my family.

In this month’s article, we’ll focus on:

  • 3 daily practices to deepen your spirituality.

  • 5 things to strengthen your intuition.

  • Link to Michael A. Singer’s free talks.

Ever Evolving

Many remarkable teachers have influenced my spiritual journey, particularly Michael A. Singer. Attending his talks and reading his books have been transformative. After all, it’s not every day you hear a Jewish Yogi express his love for Jesus! His teachings opened my heart and widened my spiritual horizon.

In addition, reading books like The Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda added to my spiritual understanding. And meeting living guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar during a month-long journey to India with my teacher, Debra Poneman, deepened my spiritual connection.

I've placed all of these books in my Amazon Book Club. Please click on the link below to take you to the recommended reading list.

But let’s be real . . .

Spirituality isn’t just about reading sacred texts and meeting gurus; it's about staying connected to your Higher Self in the nitty-gritty of everyday living when interacting with others.

My husband and daughter are the cornerstones of my spiritual practice. Every interaction serves as an opportunity for self-inquiry, which is always revelatory. In these moments of proximity and inevitable friction, I find clarity, truth, and a deeper connection to the Divine.

Three Daily Practices to Deepen Your Spirituality

  1. Surrender

I used to resist surrendering my position or stance to anyone. Now, I see it as a sacred act, a conscious choice to co-create my life with my Higher Power. In moments when I don’t have the answers, surrender becomes my first step toward Divine collaboration.

  1. Nature as Moving Meditation

Walking my dogs, William and Mary, is more than exercise; it’s my ‘moving meditation’ practice. Walking among the trees and bathing in their energy is my jam. The Japanese call this exercise shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), but I call it solace.

I used to discount this practice as ‘too enjoyable’ to be spiritual. Now, I relish it as a moment of profound connection with Mother Earth.

  1. Daily Spiritual Nourishment

I ensure my soul is fed by reading spiritual texts or pulling from my oracle decks daily. Authors like Michael A. Singer and Kyle Gray provide endless wisdom that deepen my understanding.

Five Things to Strengthen Your Intuition

  1. Muscle Testing

Your muscles will help you discern a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ by asking yourself questions and feeling the subtle bodily shifts forward or backward. Muscle testing is how I knew I was pregnant with Kara.

  1. Pendulum Use

Like muscle testing, a pendulum can be an effective tool. I even created an instruction sheet to guide me through complex decisions.

  1. Tarot Study

Authors like Angeles Arrien and Sallie Nichols have taught me that Tarot is a map of the unconscious mind. I pull daily spreads to engage with this ancient wisdom.

  1. Feeling-Based Decisions

Pay attention to initial feelings of expansion, relief, or joy when making decisions. It’s my internal compass speaking my Truth to me.

  1. Check-Ins

Throughout the day, pause and lay on the floor. Place your hands over your heart and belly, and ask this question to your inner self: “How am I doing?” It never fails to give me an accurate, intuitive response.

Helpful Resources

If you want a book to deepen your spiritual journey, I highly recommend The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer. For a special treat, listen to it on Audible to hear him narrate his experience.

If you’re looking for a Tarot book to strengthen your intuition, this is one of my favorites: The Tarot Handbook: Practical Applications of Ancient Visual Symbols by Angeles Arrien.
