Celebrate Relax Together: Finding Peace in Partnership

June 01, 20255 min read

Welcome to our Marriage War and Peace blog for June!

Amidst life’s daily hustle, it’s all too common for couples to get bogged down in the nitty-gritty of partnership—who’s grabbing the groceries, which bills need settling, whose turn it is to tackle the dishes.

Over time, if we’re not careful, we can begin to relate more like roommates than lovers or teammates. But peace in a relationship isn’t just about resolving conflict or communicating better—it’s also about intentionally making space to relax and be together.

Relaxation doesn’t have to be a solo practice.

In fact, learning to unwind side-by-side can deepen connection, build trust, and remind you why you chose each other in the first place.

Whether it's sitting in shared silence, cooking dinner with music playing in the background, or holding hands during a slow walk, these moments of shared relaxation can help you transition from the ‘doing mode’ of daily life to the ‘being mode' of your relationship. It's in these moments that you truly connect with each other.

In this month’s article, we’ll focus on:

· Our Simple Ritual of Slowing Down

· Mindful Marriage Moments: 6 ways to relax and reconnect

· How to Be an Adult in Relationships

Our Simple Ritual of Slowing Down

Like many couples, my husband and I lead busy lives. We're constantly juggling work, parenting, home life, and running service-based businesses. The days can often feel like a blur of nonstop demands. But amidst this chaos, we’ve found a simple yet profoundly rewarding practice—slowing down and relaxing together.

For us, winding down in each other’s presence has become an act of shared self-care. It’s not about doing the same thing but about being near one another while tending to our individual needs.

Most evenings, after I’ve taken our pups, William and Mary, out for their last walk of the day, my husband finishes his work so we can begin our nighttime rhythm together.

We start by turning down the house. I light a stick of Nag Champa or burn sage—the earthy scent signals it’s time to slow down and soften. It’s our invitation to move from activity to stillness. Then, we settle into our favorite spots, ready to unwind and connect.

He often cues up a nature documentary while I curl up with a journal or a book. Sometimes, we exchange highlights from our day—the funniest moment, the strangest client request, or something that caught us completely off guard. It’s low-effort, low-pressure, and deeply connecting.

Weekends bring longer mornings in pajamas, slow breakfasts, and no rush to be anywhere. Just being together, comfortably and intentionally, brings us a profound sense of peace. It's in these moments that we truly appreciate the beauty of togetherness.

These small, daily rituals have become the quiet glue in our relationship—a gentle way of saying, “I see you. I choose you. Let’s rest here together.”

Relax together with these simple activities for reconnecting couples. I encourage you to try these rituals and see how they can bring you closer and bring more peace and joy into your lives.

Mindful Marriage Moments: 6 Ways to Relax and Reconnect

Relaxing as a couple isn’t about doing more—it’s about being more present with each other. These simple, meaningful practices are designed to help you slow down, tune in, and strengthen your bond through shared calm and connection.

1. Evening Wind-Down Ritual Instead of collapsing in front of the TV, try lighting a candle, making tea, and taking 10 minutes to share about your day. Keep it low-pressure, and let the ritual signal a soft landing at the end of the day.

2. Mindful Mornings Start your weekend with a shared meditation, a walk in nature, or simply enjoying breakfast in bed. Beginning the day with presence creates a tone of calm connection for everything that follows.

3. Cozy At-Home Date Nights Unplug, order in your favorite meal, and curl up under a blanket with a movie, a board game, or a shared journal. The point isn’t productivity—it’s togetherness.

4. Partner Stretching or Yoga Gentle movement like stretching or restorative yoga can be deeply bonding. Try a YouTube video or take a couples yoga class. Physical closeness plus breath awareness equals instant calm.

5. Cooking Without the Rush Choose a recipe you’ve never made, put on music, and cook together without a deadline.

Let it be fun, even if it’s messy. The goal is connection, not culinary perfection.

6. Tech-Free Quiet Time Set aside 20 minutes once or twice a week to sit quietly together—no phones, no TV, just presence. You can read, journal, or even rest side by side. Peace often returns when we stop trying to fill every silence.

Relaxing together is an underrated form of intimacy. It builds safety, steadies the nervous system, and allows you both to breathe deeper—in each other’s company. This June, challenge yourselves to slow down, tune in, and rediscover the joy of simply being together.

What Wives and Couples Are Saying

DEEPER HEALING, REAL PROGRESS

"Before working with Veronica my husband and I had spoken to other relationship therapists and did “talk” therapy. At the conclusion of each session we walked away with little insight and rarely forward momentum. After working with Veronica, I see that we are going deeper and hitting the crux of our challenges. Our sessions are practical and we have had positive impact and we’ve made true progress. Veronica helped us identify the unsustainable patterns that we unknowingly got ourselves stuck in and had been causing us very uneven happiness and closeness. After nearly 20 years of marriage, we have hope and look forward to our next 20 years."

SAVED OUR MARRIAGE, HEALED OUR HEARTS

"On the brink of divorce, we had tried therapy and it didn’t work. Our marriage was a roller coaster and I felt emotionally drained every day. When I got pregnant I had to do something because I didn’t want to bring my baby into our hot mess. Veronica diagnosed was was going on in our first session! My husband and I have helped each other heal so much in our sessions with Veronica. We are a team now and it feels so good to have our son being born into a peaceful home."

NO MORE ANXIETY ATTACKS

"As a result of working with Veronica, I live in peace without anxiety or panic. I love where I live, and I work out and have taken pride in the healthy meals I prepare for myself. Veronica is the only person who has helped me achieve any lasting results. It’s been nearly 2 years since our first session and I am feeling so stable and at-peace. I cannot recommend her enough, as she changed my life."

FROM ROCK BOTTOM TO FAMILY HAPPINESS

"My marriage was in shambles and I felt like I had hit rock bottom. I was desperate for a solution that didn't involve medication. My husband refused to go to therapy with me, which left me feeling hopeless. We were constantly fighting and didn't know how to break the cycle. Since Veronica came into my life, my family is in a much better place. I no longer take my husband's behavior personally, and we're able to enjoy each other's company. I hear my kids giggle every day, and it fills me with joy. I'm forever grateful for Veronica's guidance and support."

Curiosity replaced contention

I can't thank you enough for your insightful guidance! I'm finally starting to grasp what you mean by marriage as a spiritual practice. Now, when I'm triggered, I pause and ask myself, where is this coming from? This simple act of curiosity has helped me explore any unmet needs, whether related to my relationship with myself or past experiences. It’s incredible how this shift transforms the trigger into a more compassionate response — almost like magic! Although I still desire a compassionate, understanding, and loving partner, I've found that grounding myself in self-awareness and curiosity lessens the intensity of those triggers. Working with you has allowed me to piece together years of personal growth, and your support has helped me apply everything I’ve learned. I’m truly grateful for everything you’ve helped me discover!"

Bridging Hearts Through Authentic Communication

"Thank you Veronica for taking a walk with my husband and I through some very difficult times. We are a couple only married 5 years. Our love for one another runs deep but found our communication somewhat lacking in several areas and found ourselves struggling to understand each other’s viewpoint. Our marriage was getting close to dissolving even though our hearts yearned for love throughout our golden years and truly unto death do us part.

Veronica’s spiritual aspect, her true love for people, the sanctity of marriage, her knowledge base and genuine heart has made such a difference in our marriage as we began to look into one another’s history and apply tools given to us by Veronica , we began to see a difference in leaps and bounds in the right direction.Thank you Veronica! You are amazing in so many ways!!!"

PERSONAL GROWTH, EMOTIONAL STABILITY

"Veronica is a master at pinning untruths and exposing the ego in the most effective way for healing relationship trauma and excelling in life in general. In just two sessions my work with her has helped me identify deeply embedded story lines I’d been living out and a pathway to getting them cleared that has exponentialized my growth and emotional stability.”

FL, New Mexico

BROADENED PERSPECTIVE, SOFTENED EXPECTATIONS

"Before working with Veronica, my wife and I had a deep love for each other, but we were having trouble communicating about certain fairly private and sensitive realities of married life. We were frustrated and unsure how to work through these issues. We have some new communication tools from working with Veronica that helped broaden our perspective, softened our expectations, and strengthened our understanding of one another significantly. Our marriage feels more aligned, and we are moving forward with greater confidence and love."
